BURY moved up into the automatic promotion places for the first time this season after cruising to their second away win of the League Two campaign.

Craig Jones spurned a couple of gilt-edged chances in the first half before Danny Rose opened the scoring three minutes after the break with his fifth goal in six matches.

Brunton Park fell silent, with the home fans expecting a flag for offside or a foul, as the former Barnsley frontman beat Carlisle keeper Mark Gillespie to a Nicky Adams cross and looped a header into the top corner.

Jones then finally got his name on the scoresheet, stroking home a Rose pass on 58 minutes and the fragile confidence of the managerless home side was broken.

Ryan Lowe came off the bench to round off the scoring 10 minutes from time with a superb curling shot from the edge of the box - his first league goal since returning to the club in the summer.

The comfortable victory left Bury third in the table on goal difference and Carlisle - who dropped down from League One last season – bottom, facing another relegation battle.
