Unsworth clinched promotion to the Premier Division for the 2015 season with an eight-wicket victory against local rivals Radcliffe on Saturday.

The Dragons entered the weekend’s fixtures against the Homer Street men and Crompton needing just one point to confirm Premier Division cricket next season.

Radcliffe visited the Pole Lane Ground hoping to upset Unsworth’s chances.

They started well, batting first and putting on 60 for the first wicket before Martin Coates fell for 47. Jack O’Brien then turned up the heat, taking three more wickets, dismantling the Radcliffe middle order. Liam Richards, Sean Gibson and Alex Blake all took two wickets to finish Radcliffe off for 137.

In reply, the Dragons were convincing with the bat, Jeff Keyt scoring 55 not out and Abid Fazil 35 not out as Unsworth coasted to victory by eight wickets and secured promotion to the Central Lancashire Premiership.

On Sunday, Unsworth travelled to Crompton for the final match of the year.

Unsworth batted first and lost regular wickets until Alex Taylor joined professional Chris Williams at the crease.

The pair put on 107 runs and Williams went on to make an impressive century, 106 from just 74 balls. Taylor hit 29 and Unsworth ended up all out for 238 runs, using just 39 of their 50 overs.

Crompton batted positively, playing aggressive strokes from the start with their pro scoring 95 and overseas amateur hitting 60 not out as the home side won easily by eight wickets in 32 overs.

Radcliffe lost their final game of the season by five wickets at champions Monton & Weaste on Sunday.
