THE sense of euphoria in the JD Stadium during and after Saturday’s victory over Burton Albion was unbelievable and fully deserved.

Once Danny Nardiello popped up to score that first goal Bury put in a breathtaking second-half display.

I know Burton had a couple of key players missing and were not quite up to the levels they had been, but as far as top-of-the-table clashes go this was a complete mis-match.

As soon as the Shakers went ahead there was just no stopping them. The kind of scenes I witnessed as the goals went in are just what this club has longed for and with the strength in the squad I see no reason why they can’t kick on from here.

But I would issue a word of warning here. I can fully understand fans getting carried away by what was an emotionally-charged atmosphere, but the players and staff must guard against joining them.

Each goal was met by wild excitement, but it felt as if they were celebrating winning the title, yet we are only nine games into the season.

Bury are now up there to be shot at and opposing fans, players and management will be trying hard to pull them down a peg or two from here on in.

Saying that, the fans inside the ground on Saturday were treated to something pretty special, a number of whom will have either been going for the first time or going back after a spell away.

The club has worked very hard to put the word out about what is happening at Bury and against Burton their hard work was rewarded with a crowd of more than 4,500.

Any fan who doesn’t return after being treated to such a spectacle, you would have to say was never going to.

I was so pleased the Shakers were able to put on such a good show as so often when these kind of games are hyped up they fail to match the billing.

But this one delivered and hopefully Bury can go on to attract these kinds of numbers on a more regular basis.

Credit to Flicker as well, Burton came to defend and the way they set their stall out in the first half you feared it could turn into a damp squib.

But the Bury boss regrouped at half time, identified what he felt was wrong and did something about it by sending on Nardiello.

The fact Flicker was able to replace Danny Rose with Nardiello shows just how far this club has come in a short space of time.

It was clear the striker felt as if he had something to prove, and boy did he do that.
