NORMAL service was resumed at the JD Stadium as Bury made it seven straight league wins at home with a comfortable victory over Cambridge United.

The Shakers had fallen out of the automatic promotion zone after picking up just a point from back-to-back away games.

But Nicky Adams gave them an early advantage with a stunning strike in the 13th minute to record his first goal since returning to the club in the summer, and they never looked back.

Danny Rose added the second - his seventh of the campaign - from close range just before the half hour mark, bundling in a Craig Jones cross after Cambridge stopper Chris Dunn got under the flight of the ball.

Dunn had been busy in the opening exchanges, diving at the fee of both Rose and Ryan Lowe after the strikers had been put through.

Rose also sent a 25-yard chip narrowly wide, while Tom Soares forced a diving save out of the keeper with a low shot, also from 25 yards.

Lowe stung the fingertips of Dunn with the best chance of the second half – a snap shot just inside the box - while Danny Mayor had another stand-out game, teasing the Cambridge defence down the left wing with some mazy runs and sublime skill.

The visitors offered little or nothing going forward, with Bury keeper Rob Lainton untested before Liam Hughes fired in an 80th minute free kick from distance that he managed to hold, while Ryan Donaldson had a late shot cleared as it headed for the bottom corner.

Shakers fans had plenty to cheer about in the second half, however, as the returning Tom Kennedy and Everton striker Courtney Duffus were introduced from the bench to make their debuts at the JD Stadium after signing on loan until January.

Duffus, who dropped to the bench after starting his first match at Southend the previous weekend, just missed with a late lob that grazed the top of the net.

And Adams almost capped a superb individual display with a curling shot from outside the box that bounced back off the woodwork in the 89th minute.

Bury remained fourth in League Two, but just two points behind new leaders Wycombe.
