BURY men’s first team got the second half of the season off to the perfect start with a comfortable victory over Lytham St Annes at Castlebrook on Saturday.

An even opening five minutes saw both sides press but neither could carve out clear opportunities.

The introduction of Jack Dixon proved pivotal for Bury with the forward immediately beating two Lytham defenders down the right wing. His cross provided James Oakes with an easy finish to open the scoring.

Chris McManus and Dixon combined again to set up James Larmett for the second goal.

In a crowded circle, the midfielder slotted in his second goal of the season, to extend Bury’s advantage.

Bury’s domination was confirmed shortly before half time when Toby Carr-Brown netted his first league goal for the club when he deflected in Ian Hillary’s strike at the far post.

The second period proved more frustrating for Bury as they took time to find their passing range again, but Oakes’ 25th goal of the season secured the points and Bury’s first clean sheet of the campaign.

The result lifts Bury into ninth place in Division Three North ahead of this weekend’s fixture at Didsbury Northern.

n Despite goals from skipper Danny Quin and a first league goal from Peter Wragg, Bury’s second team were beaten 4-2 by South Manchester.
