GREENMOUNT were denied glory in this year’s Anthony Axford Indoor Cricket Tournament when they bowed out to Kearsley at the semi-final stage of Sunday.
The Bury side batted first and made 96 with a fine controlled innings of 41 from Andy Bowker. Joe McCann picked up two wickets for 15 off his three overs.
Kearsley reached that total with five balls to spare, having lost only two wickets. Leading scorers were Joe McCann with 26 not out and Rick Hamblett 26no. Greenmount’s Mark Stewart took 1-13 off his three overs.
The other semi-final saw Egerton take on FSC. Egerton batted first and made 125-5 with Danny Partington, 30, Antony Clegg 32 leading scorers. Luke Ashworth was the pick of the Kearsley bowlers with 2-11 from his two overs.
In reply FSC scored 91 all out, with four of their batsmen being run out. Top scorer was Christian Walsh with 28
Egerton successfully retained the trophy when they beat Kearsley in the final to make it four wins in a row and one win away from equalling Walkden’s five consecutive wins from 1999-2003.
