AN open day for budding women cricketers is taking place at Tottington St John's Cricket Club on Saturday.

The newly-formed female team, which is run by Lancashire County Cricket Club's development officer Jennifer Laycock and coached by Walshaw and England Test star Kate Cross, begin their first season in Division One of the Women's Northern League this summer.

The Tottington women's team, who will play their games on a Sunday throughout the season, are on the lookout for new players of all ages and abilities.

All are welcome to attend the event from noon on Saturday, which is being held in conjunction with the annual NatWest CricketForce day.

"The open day invites anyone interested in playing for the girls, women's or men's cricket teams. You can also help spruce up the club for the new season too," said Tottington development officer Kieran Coe.
