Radcliffe CC first team captain Chris Berry is confident his revamped Championship side can challenge for top honours in the Central Lancashire League this season.

Former Radcliffe professional Anwar Ul-haq is back at the club as an amateur player to help boost the first team squad, while the Homer Street men have also signed Pakistan professional Raheel Majeed.

The 31-year-old former Milnrow and Edenfield pro is an all-round batsman and overseas professional.

"He's an exciting prospect and will win us games," said Berry.

"His stats outshone everybody and his experience will help me on the field and with the juniors.

"He's a leg spinner and if he doesn't do it with the bat he'll do it with the ball.

"I'm relying on him scoring 800-900 runs this season and bring a bit more professionalism into the club.

"The first team is stronger this season which also means the second team will be better too.

"I'm not saying we will win the league but we'll certainly give it a go rather than finishing third bottom like we did last year.

Radcliffe start their season at Oldham, who finished bottom of the division last year, on Sunday, 1pm start.
