BURY chairman Stewart Day hopes to recreate the euphoric scenes he witnessed at Tranmere on Saturday at the JD Stadium next season.

The Shakers travelling army of more than 2,300 fans stormed the pitch at the final whistle after a 1-0 victory, coupled with defeat for Phil Brown's Southend side at Morecambe, secured promotion from League Two.

A host of northern neighbours await for Bury in the third tier, and Day believes the Gigg Lane ground will be "rocking" when local rivals Rochdale, Oldham, Blackpool and Wigan visit next term.

"Promotion is massive, absolutely massive," he said.

"You have got I think 18 or 19 teams local to us (in League One next season).

"So we are going to get that stadium rocking when we get those teams coming down here."

Day rescued the club from a winding-up order in the summer of 2013, following relegation from League One, and after backing manager David Flitcroft with the finances to rebuild the squad has helped guide them back up in just two seasons at the helm

The chairman found it difficult to sum up his emotions after Tom Soares' 61st-minute goal set up a tense finale that ended with a full-scale pitch invasion at Prenton Park.

"Unbelievable – absolutely incredible," he said.

"To see those scenes at the end of the game, the fans coming on to the pitch, I know they shouldn’t do but the emotions were running high.

"It’s an unbelievable thing for the football club.

"Two years ago when I took the club over we were down and the club was out.

"Basically now is the chance for the club to get back on its feet.

"I said we would get promotion and thankfully we have done.

"I am absolutely over the moon. These lads deserve it for the hard work they have put into it.

"And the supporters deserve it.

"So onwards and upwards now, we have got to get ready for League One and that is the task for over the summer."
