MORECAMBE scored both goals as the League Two side held Bury to a draw at the Globe Arena in the second friendly of their pre-season campaign.

Ryan Edwards put a Joe Riley cross into his own net in only the fourth minute before Shrimps captain Peter Murphy levelled shortly before the break.

The Shakers’ new on-loan goalkeeper Christian Walton continued his confident start to his season-long spell at the club with a great save to deny Kevin Ellison in the opening minute.

It was not long before the deadlock was broken though as Edwards headed Riley’s teasing centre past Morecambe keeper Barry Roche.

Roche was a busy man in the first half and had to be alert three minutes after the goal to tip over Danny Mayor’s chipped effort before Bury triallist Reece Brown produced a last ditch tackle at the other end to prevent Aaron Wildig getting a shot away.

Morecambe had the better of the chances as the half wore on.

First, Ellison fired wide despite being in plenty of space, then Walton produced another decent stop to palm Wildig’s effort around the post.

The resulting corner was not fully cleared and Murphy tapped in at the back post.

There was one final chance of the first half as Hallam Hope was denied by a fantastic save from Roche at point blank range.

Chances were few and far between in the second half, but Bury dominated the majority of the possession and had the better chances.

Tom Soares, impressive in centre midfield with Danny Pugh, stung the palms of Roche from distance before cracking an effort against the bar from 25 yards in the 56th minute.

Hope was deployed in the wide left position again and he very nearly got an assist midway through the second half, sending in a low cross that Tom Pope was inches away from converting.

The final chance of the game fell to Bury captain Nathan Cameron but he met headed Chris Hussey’s in-swinging corner a yard wide at the back post.

Bury are back in action again today when they make the short trip to non-league neighbours Radcliffe Borough, kick off 3pm.
