BURY forward Danny Mayor has penned a contract extension that will keep him at Gigg Lane until the summer of 2019.

The 24-year-old, who has scored three goals in 13 appearances in league and cup so far this campaign, was on a three-year contract until 2017 but the club announced yesterday he had agreed an extension.

Mayor has become a key member of David Flitcroft's squad having originally joined on a season-long loan from Sheffield Wednesday two years ago.

He played 42 times in 2013-14 and was named the Players' Player of the Season, prompting a move to make his switch permanent at the end of the campaign.

Last season, the Leyland-born star was voted the League Two Player of the Year after helping the Shakers to promotion.

Mayor is in line for his 200th career appearance at Colchester United today and will hope Bury can extend their record-breaking away run to cap a good week.

His commitment to the Shakers is something that has delighted chairman Stewart Day who told the club: "Danny is an integral part of our squad and is a massive part of the future of Bury Football Club, as well as his own ambition.

"Capturing his signature for a further three years shows the ambition we have as a club and we are delighted to secure his services.

"Danny feels he has a home with us and we are only too happy for him to continue helping us push the club forward."
