IT was bad news all round for Bury's men's team last weekend with both the first and second teams falling to comprehensive defeats against Prescot.

The first team came out second best in their top of the table clash when they lost 3-1 on Saturday.

The title contenders went into the game at Castlebrook level on points at the top of Division Three North but a poor 15-minute period in the first half cost Bury the chance of going clear at the top.

An even opening 10 minutes saw both teams try to establish their passing games and some quick Prescot passing led to an opportunity that was finished at the near post, past the wrong footed Rob Fogwill in the Bury net.

The visitors struck again just three minutes later when Fogwill was left exposed and, despite his best efforts, Prescot were able to double their lead.

Less than 30 seconds later, some loose defending allowed the visitors to grab a third with a close range tap-in as the game went from bad to worse for the home side.

Bury responded well and clever wing play from Toby Carrr-Brown set up a goalmouth scramble which ended with Simon Major crashing home, to give Bury hope of mounting a comeback.

Unfortunately, despite some periods of extended pressure in the second half, the Castlebrook side were unable to drag themselves back into the game, as Prescot extended their lead at the top of the table.

Bury's second team travelled to Prescot on Saturday, where a poor first half performance saw them concede four sloppy goals in an ill-disciplined performance.

The second half saw Bury make more of a fight of the game as a Danny Quinn penalty stroke got the visitors onto the scoresheet, but it was no more than a consolation as Prescot scored again to seal a comprehensive 5-1 victory.
