BURY GSOB's suffered stage fright in the Kenyon Cup final at Gigg Lane, being beaten in the final by a team they beat earlier in the season.
The game was evenly balanced in the first half with both teams creating good goal-scoring opportunities.
Bury's best chance fell to Spencer Woods with a header from eight yards out which went wide. Heywood St James man-of-the-match Chris Nuttall was causing problems on the left for the Bury defence but no-one was getting a final touch on his crosses.
Heywood St James took the lead early in the second half, Ricky Bates bursting through the Bury defence and running 30 yards before calmly firing past the advancing keeper.
Heywood continued to dominate the play in the second half and looked the more likely to score. Bury managed a couple of half chances but the Heywood keeper kept the efforts out.
Heywood made it 2-0 with a goal from Jason Benson 20 minutes from time.
With 10 minutes to go, Chris Nuttall sealed the match for Heywood with a fine goal after cutting in from the left and giving the keeper no chance with a powerful shot.
In the end Heywood's stronger more experienced team were too good for Bury GSOB.
