BURY Athletic Club captain Byron Edwards completed the first of three marathons in three weeks on Sunday.

Edwards went round the Manchester Marathon course in a brisk 3hrs 13mins 39secs.

Next up is the Boston Marathon this weekend before returning to the UK for the London Marathon next Sunday.

He is on track to reach his target of finishing inside three-and-a-half hours at all three events.

Coach Richard Daley made his debut over the marathon distance, running strongly to break the four-hour barrier in a time of 3:51.23.

Dave Carroll was not far behind Daley, finishing in 4:08:16.

In the two-athlete relay, Lisa Carter teamed up with Sarah Sutcliffe to form the ‘Totty Trotters’. They finished in a combined time of 3:45:24, with Lisa covering her half in a respectable 1:51:00.

Marcus Dey warmed up for an appearance in the London Mini Marathon, where he will compete for Greater Manchester over the three-mile course, by coming home first in the Heaton Park parkrun on Saturday, completing the 5k course for the first time in a very nippy 17:27.

He will be joined in London a week on Sunday by club-mate Francis Woodcock, who has also been selected for the county team.

Giles Bennett was ninth place at the parkrun in 19:11, just nine seconds ahead of Sophie Whittaker, who was once again the first woman home, notching up her total number of victories to 11.

Stefan Kalambouka finished 15th overall, breaking the 20-minute barrier again with a run of 19.38.

Later in the day, Ben Coop and Benn Heywood competed in the Wardle Skyline fell race. Coop took an impressive sixth place in 51:09, while Heywood was close behind in ninth, just more than a minute behind his team-mate.

Elsewhere, three club members competed in the Fleetwood 10k. Jenny Yates was second woman finisher in 45:06 and Alison Dale just missed breaking the 50-minute barrier with a time of 50:21. Emma Dawson ran well to finish in 61:21.

A large number of Bury’s junior athletes travelled to Bebington Oval on the Wirral for the first meeting in the Cheshire Track and Field League.

They secured a number of victories, although the very windy conditions made it hard for the sprinters.
