RADCLIFFE fighter Isaac Taylor beat undefeated Dutch fighter Siad Yavas to win the Goldenbelt European 58kg Thai boxing title at the Longfield Suite in Prestwich.

The 17-year-old won by a technical knockout in the third round and his dad and trainer Johnny Taylor believes the victory is a stepping stone to one day competing for a world title.

Johnny, who runs Johnny T's Gym in Radcliffe, where he trains his son, said: "Isaac's victory to win the Goldenbelt was not just impressive because he claimed a European title, he also beat a previously undefeated fighter to do it.

"Yavas had made four defences of his title and was a hot favourite.

"Isaac has won British titles before at different weights but this was another step up for him.

"He's going to Thailand in July to train and hopefully earn a place on a tournament over there, which is obviously the leading nation in Thai boxing.

"After that he will be defending his European title in November or December this year at the Castle Leisure Centre in Bury.

"He would like to one day fight for a world title. If he can defend his European title a few times he will move up the rankings. Isaac is number one in the UK and Europe now but all of the world champions are in Thailand, so that is the next challenge for him."

As well as training at Johnny T's, Isaac also works out at IJ's Gym, which is also in Radcliffe.
