JOE Riley is set to become the third player to leave Bury this summer after being told to find a new club.

The Bury Times understands the former Bolton Wanderers right-back could be the next to leave Gigg Lane as directors look to balance the books.

Fellow defender Chris Hussey was sold to Sheffield United last week for what the Blades described as an “undisclosed nominal fee”, while striker Danny Rose moved to Mansfield for what is understood to be an initial fee of £40,000.

And it now seems as though Bury are eager to get 24-year-old Riley off the wage bill.

The full-back joined the Shakers on a free transfer in January last year and helped them earn promotion from League Two.

He scored two goals in 57 appearances – including goal of the season in a 3-1 win at Bramall Lane.

Riley started the first 25 games of last season, but fell down the pecking order following a reported back injury.

An offer was made for the Boothstown-born player in January from an unnamed club, after which manager David Flitcroft pulled him from the squad that won at Oldham. That move did not materialise but it is clear the writing is now on the wall for Riley.

Meanwhile, Bury’s search for land to build a new stadium on will not include Pilsworth after developers revealed it was not an appropriate site.
