I THOUGHT Ryan Senior's tally of a hat-trick and eight wickets in Greenmount's win against Heywood would have taken some beating this season.

But we got off the pitch to find Kendrick Hatton had gone one better with nine for Walshaw.

Hat's off to the lad and you've got to say that was a great result for Walshaw against Bamford Fieldhouse.

The individual performance that caught my eye, though, was from Kate Cross.

It's not every day you get to face an England international, and as you would expect she is a very handy player.

Kate certainly showed she was worth her place in the Heywood team after removing our pro, Travis Townsend, lbw and while she may have batted last she played some good shots – and I'm not just saying that because I took her wicket.

It's great for our local leagues that men and women are playing on an equal footing, but I must admit it is a little nerve wracking.

I don't mind saying that when I am running in to bowl to a woman, and I have faced three so far, all I am thinking is 'please don't drive me through the covers for four'.

You certainly don't pull back when you are bowling, as some people might think.

If the game would have depended on it, Kate would have got the full barrage, and I think that's the way she would want it.

The reality is, the pressure is probably more on the men.

Banter plays a big part in the dressing room, and no doubt Travis will get a bit of extra ribbing in training this week.

It maybe shouldn't be the case, but I guess that's human nature.
