THERE has been quite a few different opinions expressed this week about the success of the league's twenty-20 competition.

A common criticism has been that games between the Premier Division sides and those in the lower divisions have been a mismatch.

That might be the case, but I still believe the way the group stages are regionalised is the right thing to do.

There might need to be some fine-tuning to the format in the future, but the key thing is to attract spectators and it has been a huge success in those terms.

I know from the Greenmount games I have witnessed that queues at the bar have been three deep, and surely that's the idea?

Who cares if the matches are not keenly contested in the opening round? That will come once the big teams make it through and meet in the knockout stages.

The important thing for me is that smaller clubs are given the chance to host matches against big local sides to boost their coffers.

Who knows, they might be able to claim a scalp or two along the way, but even if they don't I can't see how these matches are hurting anyone, except for maybe the pride of those sides on the wrong end of a hammering.

As a player, I think they are great. It was a real shame Greenmount could not get a full game in against Woodbank last Friday, but they did a real good job putting the match on.

The music, food and beer were all great. Unfortunately, the weather beat us again and it must be said the rain has really spoiled things for everyone so far this season.

We just can't seem to get going, but I am sure given the right weather, the T20 comp is going to hot up once we get into the quarter-finals.
