BURY Seniors' most dismal start to a Red Rose League campaign for some years has almost been forgotten following a second impressive win in as many weeks.

The Unsworth Hall side built on a crushing victory over leaders Leyland by inflicting a similarly crushing blow on visitors Chorley to climb off the foot of the table.

They once again enjoyed their home comforts, after starting the season with a flurry of away fixtures, repeating the same 10-4 scoreline against Chorley they managed against Leyland.

Bury skipper Jimmy Pilkington resumed his partnership with Alan Green and they finished level with Chorley's Graham Dunn and Steven Lamb.

Gordon Pilkington and Ted Foster dominated the second rubber against Peter Jones and David Howard, using many years of local knowledge and no mean skill to emerge 4&3 winners.

Lawrie Yarwood and Dave Partington battled to another draw, against Tony Bonney and Lincoln Green, to help Bury retain their lead.

And Maurice Almond and Stuart Hindley, who have been in top form in the opening weeks of the season, stretched the home side's advantage with a 3&2 win against Mike English and Gordon Fell.

Stuart Deville and Phil Gent quickly mastered the course to keep Chorley in the match with an impressive 5&4 win against Ged Eckersley and Ian Brooks.

The visitors were unable to muster another victory as the home tail wagged magnificently.

First Tim Whitehead and John Latham stormed to a 6&4 victory over Robert Livingston and Keith Eckersley then Trevor Ince and Mike Howarth completed the rout with a 4&3 win against Paul Walkden and Jeff Wignall.
