AS pupils across the borough prepare to break up for summer, it seems those in the sports teams at Woodhey High School have earned their holiday.

Head of PE Alasdair Harper certainly believes so following a string of success over the past school year.

He said: "Woodhey has enjoyed another very successful year at local and regional sporting events.

"The hard work and dedication of the staff has been matched by the pupils and led to some outstanding personal and collective achievements.

"Well done to everyone involved."

Those achievements included the Year 8 girls football team reaching the Manchester City Premier League Cup final and the Year 8 and Year 11 boys sides making it to the Bury finals.

The Year 8 boys and girls teams were also crowned Greater Manchester indoor athletics champions, while the rugby teams in Years 7, 8 and 9 all won county titles and reached North West of England finals.

Woodhey can also boast town champions in netball and hockey. The Year 10 netball team won the Bury title, as did the Year 9 hockey team before finishing third in the county finals.
