STAND got back to winning ways in Division Two of the Greater Manchester Cricket League with an emphatic nine-wicket win against second-bottom South West Manchester.

After winning the toss and inviting the visitors to bat things got off to a shaky start with South West reaching 49-0 after nine overs.

Stand brought on the spinners and the game changed from that point with Ali Azmat (4-29), Dinesh Ateeq (2-19) and captain Stuart Catterall (3-22) collecting nine wickets between them, bowling out the opposition for just 133.

The home side lost an early wicket in their reply, with opener Dave Taylor falling cheaply for six.

But a patient 25 from Chris Thomas and 75 from professional Azmat, who hit eight fours and four sixes, saw the Hamilton Road side move from 18-1 to pass their target with 27 overs to spare.

The result left stand second in the table, one point behind leaders Denton, who have a game in hand.

Stand are at home to Wythenshawe on Saturday, August 20. Wickets are pitched at the earlier time of 12.30pm.
