BURY gave themselves a chance of survival in the Greater Manchester Premier League with a remarkable 74-run victory at home to leaders Egerton.

The Radcliffe Road men are now just one point behind fifth-bottom Unsworth going into this weekend's final round of fixtures.

They face another home game to determine their fate against fellow strugglers Edgworth, who are third bottom but can also avoid relegation if they win and results elsewhere go their way.

Karl Belston's Bury side set up their unlikely lifeline with a superb team performance.

Cosmond Walters kicked it off with a blistering knock of 81 from 89 balls as Bury put on 186-6 from their 40 overs.

Opener Ghalib Sarosh had given them a firm foundation with a solid 34 before late knocks from Mohammed Jamal (25), Alex Breckin (14) and Mukhtar Nasir (14) edged up their total.

Egerton went into the game with the chance to wrap up the title, and with second-placed Prestwich losing against Flixton the championship crown was there for the taking.

But Bury's bowlers did not give them a sniff in the run chase, as they fell to 112 all out.

Breckin finished with 3-22, while Sam Nolan-Massey, Jordan Belston and Walters all took two wickets as only four visiting batsmen made it into double figures.

Despite Bury's fine performance, Unsworth remain in the box seat for survival going into Saturday's season finale.

Chris Williams' side were unable to maintain their recent winning run at home to Denton West, losing by six wickets.

But they know that victory at home to Denton St Lawrence will secure their place in the Premier League next season, no matter how Bury, Edgworth and third-bottom Greenmount get on in their final games.

Greenmount perhaps have the slimmest chance of survival, following Saturday's 29-run defeat at Denton St Lawrence.

They must beat third-placed Clifton and hope that both Bury and Unsworth lose.
