THE relegation scrap in the Greater Manchester Premier League was not the only matter decided on a dramatic final day of competition across the top three divisions.

It was also pretty tense at the top of the Premier as leaders Egerton held their nerve to win away by 35 runs at second-placed Prestwich to secure the title.

In Division One, Walshaw and Woodbank secured promotion in the penultimate fixtures, but the local rivals swapped places in the table, with Woodbank moving up to second following their win at Swinton Moorside and Walshaw’s defeat at Winton.

Elton, meanwhile, pulled off an impressive nine-wicket win at Dukinfield but it was too little too late as Andy Donnelly’s men finished third-bottom and dropped down to Division Two.

Stand will replace them in the second tier after claiming the Division Two title, but there was heartache for Edenfield, who finished just outside of the promotion places after losing at second-placed Denton.

Brooksbottom, however, produced a remarkable recovery, moving out of the relegation places and surviving by one point after beating promotion chasers Flowery Field by 15 runs. Their victory opened the door for Edenfield to move above Flowery Field but they were unable to seize the opportunity.

Basement club Radcliffe’s fate was long-since sealed, but their 205-run defeat at champions Stand will have still smarted as they now prepare for life in Division Three.
