GREENMOUNT Under-13s completed a remarkable hat-trick, adding GMCL Premier League title and cup to the Lancashire county title they won earlier in the season.

Their success represented continued progress from last season, with seven of the U11s side that also won a treble stepping up to perform in the older age group.

They will now all be available for one more year in the u13s age group.

The triumphant season culminated in the nine-wicket defeat of Egerton in the final of the GMCL Cup, capping an impressive run of 24 matches unbeaten.

Another highlight came back in June when Greenmount won the Lancashire Knockout competition, beating Lowerhouse, of the Lancashire League, in the final after taking five other top regional scalps along the way.

The juniors' success was in stark contrast to the senior side, who suffered a shock relegation from the GMCL Premier League after switching from the Bolton League for the competition's inaugural season.

Gareth Williams, head of juniors at Greenmount, said: "It's another fantastic year of achievement for this group of players - we set them tough targets and challenge them to develop as a group and I'm delighted to say they've achieved all of them in bagging another treble.

"The boys share a common love of the game, they take it seriously but enjoy it, they work hard in practice and are very competitive.

"It's exciting to see the progress they are making and we need to keep challenging them to reach the next level."

"It has been a disappointing season for the first and second teams, but this success confirms that it is not all doom and gloom and there are exciting times ahead.

"The Under-13s are the stand-out team at the club, but in addition the third team won their league, the Under-18s finished third in the league and reached the cup final and the Under-15s won their league."

Greenmount have appointed Rudra Singh, the former Indian test cricketer and well-respected level four coach, to head up their cricket academy and they will shortly be implementing the winter training programme to start the work for next year, when the club will be launching a fourth team to give more youngsters the chance for success.
