BURY Ladies and Girls kept up their 100 per cent start to the league season, storming to a thumping 11-0 win at home to bottom side Academy Juniors on Saturday.

Jordon Bailey led the scoring with a fantastic five goals, while Leah Tibbot bagged a hat-trick, Amy Thomasson managed a brace and Kaitt Saunderson completed the rout with the final goal.

The comprehensive result ensured Bury remain top in Division One North of the North West Women's Regional League, with a three-point lead over second-placed Penrith AFC, who have played a game less, and a goal difference of +28.

Academy Juniors were on the back foot from the word go after starting with only 10 players and they lost two more through injury as the game progressed.

But despite starting with striker Kris Ferenczi in goal due to absentees of their own, Bury's watertight defence of Aimee Hall, Sammy Smith, Jordanna Holgate and Aymee Openshaw ensured the visitors never got a sniff of goal.

The back four also proved to be an effective attacking outlet, with the ball sprayed across the defence from right to left before Openshaw put in Bailey for the opener.

Bailey went on to score four more, while also creating numerous chances for the rest of the team with her tireless running.

Bury had the added advantage of two substitutes to choose from and sent on Jasmine Barker and Becca Dolman for Ellie Whittle and Sammy Smith at half time.

The fresh legs proved key as Thomasson, who was pushed forward in the second half, finished off a move that included Tibbott and Lucy Golding.

Thomasson added another to her tally following a neat pass from Jasmine Barker before Tibbott scored a quick-fire hat-trick to take the score to 10-0.

With five minutes remaining, coach Paul Iannacone moved Saunderson from holding midfield to centre forward and she rewarded him with the Bury's 11th and final goal of the game.

After failing with her first chance, the ball finally landed perfectly at her feet and she took it around the keeper before hammering it home.

The club's fifth straight win in the league left Iannacone beaming. "Good players do it once. Great players keep doing it,” he said.

Meanwhile, the club's second team showed there is plenty of strength in depth with a 4-1 victory at home to Bolton Wanderers' development side the previous weekend.

Hayley O'Hara scored twice, either side of strikes from skipper Rosin Yildirim and Kerry Foster before Wanderers pulled back a consolation goal from the penalty spot.

Bury's next match is at second-bottom Preston North End Ladies on Sunday, kick off 2pm.
