LANCASHIRE Spinners' losing start to the season continued as they lost their league opener 87-62 at home to London Lituanica.

After three straight defeats in the National Trophy, the Bury-based side were unable to break that run in their first game in Division One of the National Basketball League.

Mantas Adomaitis starred for Lituanica, scoring 26 points, with strong support from Ausridas Petraitis (25) and Edvardas Vetrenka (18).

Spinners, who play their home games at Castle Leisure Centre, never held a lead larger than one point in a tight opening quarter that finished 21-13 after London pulled away with a 9-2 burst.

Forward Zion Tordoff’s jump shot brought the Spinners back within four points with 2mins 9secs left in the second quarter, but the visitors closed the half with eight unanswered points.

Connor Murtagh led the Spinners with 19 points. David Ulph finished with a double-double – 10 points and 11 rebounds – but the two forwards spent the entire game in foul trouble.
