BURY boxer Scott Quigg believes David Flitcroft's exit from Gigg Lane prompted by a winless run of 11 matches.
The 28-year-old follows his home-town club's fortunes closely and speaking ahead of his return to the ring next month, the former WBA super-bantamweight champion told Bury Times: "I like Dave (Flitcroft) – I have spoken to him a few times and get on well with him.
"But the results hadn’t been good.
"At the end of the day it is a results business and I think that's what the Bury board has looked at."
Quigg hopes a new manager can ensure League one football stays at Gigg lane.
And he still holds out hope of a summer fight on home soil at the stadium next summer.
He added: "I still want to fight at Gigg Lane one day – maybe next summer.
"I spoke to Eddie (Hearn, promoter) about it again just a few days ago.
"I think everyone in Bury would turn out for it.
"I have always wanted to do it and maybe rename it ‘Quigg Lane’ for the night."
