WALSHAW Cricket Club have secured the services of last season's star man Saif Bhojani as professional for their debut in the top tier of the Greater Manchester League.

The talented batsman helped the Sycamore Road men to promotion to the Premier League and the club's new cricket chairman, Mike Mills, is happy to see him return.

"Signing Saif is a fantastic achievement for us," said Mills.

"He scored almost 1,000 runs last year and had several offers from a number of clubs.

"But when Saif heard about what we are planning both on and off the field, he was quick to inform us that this is where he wants to play in his first season as a professional.

"Both myself, team captain Mikey Watt and team manager Paul Ferriday are all working hard to ensure Walshaw’s continued success going forward and we’re sure 2017 will be another great year for the club."

Walshaw have also announced the signing of South African all-rounder Dylan Blignaut as their overseas player for next season.

Blignaut has previously played for Eastern Province in his home country.

Mills added: "After our successful season in achieving promotion to the GMCL Premier League, and with both the first and second teams reaching the finals of their GMCL cup competitions, the club is certainly moving in the right direction on the playing side.

"And we also have some great off-field activities planned."
