BURY boxer Scott Quigg returned to the ring in style at Manchester Arena last night with a ninth round knockout of Mexican Jose Cayetano.
The 28-year-old impressed in his first fight since moving up a division to clinch the vacant WBA International Featherweight championship.
Quigg had been out of action for 10 months after suffering a broken jaw in his first professional loss to Carl Frampton in February.
But he quickly set about making up for lost time with a polished display against a gutsy opponent on the undercard of Anthony Joshua's successful defence of his IBF world heavyweight title.
On the front foot for most of the comeback fight at a sold-out Arena, Quigg had to be patient to wear Cayetano down before landing a superb right hook midway through the ninth round to send the Mexican to the canvas and after a token count, it was over.
Speaking exclusively to Bury Times after the victory, Quigg said: "I am buzzing with the win.
"He was very awkward and tricky but I knew I had to grind him down.
"It was a good nine rounds for me.
"He put himself in the corner at the start of the ninth and I knew it was my chance.
"I couldn't be happier and it's a great way to end the year for me."
