HOLCOMBE Brook won the title for a second straight year at the annual Bury primary schools indoor athletics tournament.

Their team of 20 pupils – 10 boys and 10 girls, taken from years 5 and 6 – amassed an impressive 1072 points from 12 events on the day – six track and six field – at Castle Leisure Centre.

Hollymount finished second with 1044 and qualified along with Holcombe Brook to represent the town at the Greater Manchester Games at Sportcity in March.

Dave Bradshaw, deputy headteacher at Holcombe Brook, said: "Everyone of the 20 pupils had a part to play in the win, so it was a big team effort.

"There were lots of hugs and high fives, which was great to see.

"We are all very proud of their achievement."

A total of 28 schools competed in the tournament – 14 in the morning and 14 in the afternoon – with points given for the best performances in each event, rather than as a head-to-head competition.
