YWCA Bury cut the gap between them and leaders Warrington to eight points with a 46-39 win at home against Blackpool.
The Bury Grammar School-based side remain third in the North West Premier League with six matches of the season remaining.
And with a game in hand over Warrington, who lost for only the second time this season, at fourth-placed Newman, there is still all to play for in the title race.
Bury went into their first encounter of the campaign against Blackpool, who made the play-offs last season, ready and prepared for a tough test.
And that's how it proved as just one goal separated the sides following a tight first half.
The home side introduced Chloe Addis for the second half, while Dani Bloomfield showed her class in centre court, helping to steady the miss-firing attack while providing an important link to the defence.
Lucy Luketti also came into her own and her speed and skill at wing attack helped earn a well-deserved player of the match award.
Bury stretched their advantage to two goals by the end of the third quarter before pulling away in the closing stages thanks to a number of decisive turnovers.
Sadly, the win came at a cost as captain Jenny Cross went down with an Achilles injury just before the final whistle and will now miss the remainder of the season.
