BURY boss Lee Clark moved quickly to sign Paul Caddis after Andrew Tutte was ruled out for a “couple of weeks” with a hamstring injury.

The former Birmingham midfielder signed a short-term contract until the end of the season on Saturday.

Without a club since January, Caddis came through 90 minutes in their victories over Charlton and Coventry and linked up with his former boss again.

The 28-year-old is well known in these quarters for a 94th-minute goal against Bolton in the final game of the 2013/14 season which kept Birmingham, and boss Clark, in the Championship.

Tutte picked up an injury in the victory over Chesterfield last week but he is expected to return before the end of the season.

“I lost Andrew Tutte and I needed a player that can play in terms of passing the ball,” Clark said. “Paul has unbelievable experience in terms of right-back, right-wing back or a central midfield player.

“We go back a long way in terms of my time in Birmingham. He was the man that scored that famous goal for us in the 94th minute to keep us in the league.

“When I knew he was available it was a no-brainer. Tutte has a tight hamstring.

“He has had a scan and there is a grade two tear there. We’re thinking just a couple of weeks.

“It’s not a severe one. He will still have a big part to play in our season.”

Caddis is hoping his heroics for Birmingham at Bolton are not required again after he linked up with his former boss.

The Shakers travel to their old enemy on April 18, by which time both sides could be fighting for survival and play-off places, respectively.

Caddis has happy memories of the Macron Stadium, having netted that last-gasp equaliser to keep them in the Championship.

And with a tight relegation fight on the horizon this year the midfielder is hoping it does not go down to the wire against the Whites.

“Hopefully we don’t need a repeat of what happened at Birmingham,” Caddis said.

“I have played in a few local derbies and they are always good atmospheres. I know all about it (relegation fights), it’s tough.

“You have got to grind results out. It’s all about three points at this stage of the season.

“To be fair to the lads they’re on a great run, the manager said we have lost only one game in nine and won the last three so I came into a side that’s high on confidence and long may that continue.”

Since moving to Gigg Lane Caddis has started both matches against Charlton and Coventry and added much-needed bite to Bury’s midfield.

Now the ex-Celtic and Swindon man is looking to build up his match fitness ahead of crunch ties with Gillingham and Oldham.

“I was quite surprised myself to be honest,” he added. “I was all set to go to a Championship club and it didn’t happen.

“I am still trying to get back to match fitness. I had not played a game since August. That’s two 90 minutes now, Saturday and Tuesday.

“Now we go to Gillingham, and then we face Oldham.

“It’s three big games for us. We passed the first against Coventry so we’ll move on to the next one high on confidence.”
