MANAGER Lee Clark has confirmed Bury are working on lining up a match at home to his former club Huddersfield as part of an exciting selection of pre-season fixtures.

The Shakers posted an article on their website two weeks ago which stated they had fixtures lined up against Sunderland, Huddersfield, Macclesfield, Crewe, Salford and Tranmere, but it was quickly taken offline.

It is understood discussions are ongoing behind the scenes, but Clark said the Terriers, who were promoted to the top flight on Monday via a penalty shootout victory over Reading in the Championship play-off final, are among the clubs being lined up.

“They (Huddersfield and Sunderland) are the type of clubs we are talking too,” Clark told Bury Times. “Sunderland were recently relegated and will be a Championship club come pre-season while Huddersfield have replaced them in the Premier.

“We are hoping to have everything confirmed 100 per cent in the next couple of days. It will give us an exciting mixture of games in terms of quality of the opposition.

“We want to try to bring teams from the Championship and Premier League to Gigg Lane.

“We also want to play some noble clubs from non-league and League Two to make sure we are fully ready for the new campaign.

“We are very close with a couple of others. We are continuing to take calls and emails with regards to potential friendlies.”

Bury have so far only confirmed away ties at Macclesfield on Tuesday, July 18, and Salford City on Tuesday, July 25, while Tranmere have confirmed they will host the Shakers on Friday, July 28.
