TEENAGE Bury Clarion rider Francis Woodcock looks to be one to watch after winning the junior award in the club's annual All Comers Hill Climb Championship.

The 14-year-old was fourth overall in a time of 2mins 14.1secs, faster than honorary members and pro cyclists Simon and Adam Yates at the same age.

Woodcock was only six seconds behind overall winner Chris Lever, of Cookson Cycles, who finished the 1,000-yard climb up Lumb Carr Road in Ramsbottom in 2:08.

Jake Wright, aged 18, was crowned club champion after finishing fastest of the 21 Bury Clarion entrants in a time of 2:13.

Woodcock followed his hill climb success with an excellent third place in the under-16s event of the Horwich Grand Prix race evening.

He led a breakaway with more than a mile to go but was passed by a two member if the chasing pack before the line.

Andy Horner finished the West Pennine 25-mile time trial in 58:08, two minutes faster than his last tilt at the event in 2012.

Jon Longworth was second in the Southport Cycling Club 10-mile time trial, finishing in 23:13.
