UNSWORTH have been handed a home draw in the quarter-finals of the Derek Kay First XI Cup.

Jack O’Brien’s men will host Premier Division strugglers Denton West after earning their place in the last eight with a nine-wicket win against Division One rivals Stretford. Bury have also been drawn at home, where they will play Division One side Edgworth, with games to be played on July 2.

The region’s two teams left in the First XI Championship Cup will also have home advantage, with Division Four West side ELPM hosting Division Three Irlam, and Elton Vale, also of Division Three, entertaining Division Two leaders Thornham.

ELPM claimed the notable scalp of Division Two’s South West Manchester to make it through, with Conrad Saliparri’s unbeaten 27 seeing them past their 151-run target with two wickets remaining.

Elton Vale saw off Division Five minnows Springhead with ease, smashing 328-7 before bowling them out for 102.

It was certainly a day for the batsmen, with Majid Khan crashing 84 from 46 balls after coming in at number eight, while Mohammed Ashraf hit 81 from 60 and Mohammed Sajid made a classy 58.

It was a better end to the weekend for Elton Vale, which had begun with an 84-run defeat at Radcliffe, who remain top of Division Three.

Radcliffe captain Michael Farley opened the batting in the first innings and set the tone with 10 fours in his 57, as the home side went on to post 232-8 from their 45 overs.

Sajid did his best to help Elton Vale chase that down, opening the reply with 69 after taking 4-46 with the ball.

But he was the only Vale batsman to really trouble the scorers as they were bowled out for 148. Adam Sajewicz was the pick of the Radcliffe bowlers with 4-52.

Elsewhere, there were wins for Greenmount and Unsworth in Division One.

Unsworth set up the double at Stretford with a 57-run victory in the league on Saturday, before beating them again in the cup the following day.

Greenmount, meanwhile, remain top of the table after seeing off second-bottom Winton at home by 60 runs.

In Division Two, Brooksbottom and Elton both recorded their seventh victories of the campaign to stay locked on 38 points, five behind leaders Thornham.
