BURY Rounders League will be longing for home comforts after finishing off the away programme of their annual interleague series against Bolton with their fifth straight defeat.

The Golden Girls (over-60s) had only lost two of their previous 12 encounters against their Bolton counterparts but were unable to reverse this year’s trend as they completed the home clean sweep at Bolton CC on Friday.

Bury’s fielders made a good start by dismissing two of the first three batters at first base, but it took five more rounds before the next successes.

Sue Jolley top scored for the home side with a couple of rounders taking her individual tally to 35 as Bolton racked up an innings total of 165.

The visitors had a disastrous start to their innings as Joyce Roscoe was out at first base then June English and Frances Dickinson were both caught out.

Although five of the next six batters scored, four of them were dismissed at first base second time round.

Mary Crolla scored a rounder at the first attempt and went on to be last batter, denned for 17. Dorothy Brennan finished on 15, but Lyn Jackson, with a rounder and two threes, was the Bury top scorer with 20, giving the visitors a first-innings total of 76.

At 89 runs behind, the visitors had to follow-on, but produced a much better second innings, starting with a rounder from Roscoe. Three of the next five batters scored just four runs, three caught out and one at first base, but the remaining batters pushed the score along, including six rounders.

Phyllis Gooddy finished with 15, Jackson bettered her first-innings total with 21 and top scorer Mary Lees, who scored two consecutive rounders, was denned for 34 to give Bury 117 and a match total of 193, 28 runs ahead.

Bolton passed their target before declaring on 82 after four rounds to win 247-193.

The return matches start with the Over-45s at ELPM CC tomorrow.
