BURY Athletic Club duo Erin Kenyon and Christie Cook excelled when they competed at the Trafford AC Grand Prix meeting at the Longford Park Stadium.

Kenyon set a new lifetime best of 5mins 11.71secs in the 1500m, taking 11th place, and she was delighted with her run.

Cook won her 800m race in a season’s-best time of 2.20.23 and is close to improving her personal best.

The previous weekend saw seven young athletes travel to Blackpool to compete in the Youth Development League Upper League meeting.

For the under-20s, Sam Pakes won the 800m in a new best of 2.10.4, and he matched his first place when he turned his attention to the 400m hurdles, where he posted a time of 65.5.

He completed his day with fourth in the javelin with a best throw of 18.56m.

In the u17s competition there was a win for Stefan Kalambouka in the 3,000m, where he set a new best of 9.53.5.

Brandon Wilson took fifth in the A 100m in a lifetime best of 12.1, and then finished second in the B 200m in 25.1.

Fahad Iqbal was sixth in both the B 100m, clocking 13.8, and the 400m which he ran in 62.2, before participating in the triple jump where his best effort of 8.95 earned him fourth place.

James Coghlan set a new lifetime best of 23.9 to finish second in the A 200m and then won the B shot with a put of 8.91.

Michael Thornton had a busy afternoon in the field events, with third place in the long jump with 5.16 and an A category victory with a best shot put of 10.10.

He then teamed up with Coghlan, Wilson and Iqbal to take third place in the 4x100m relay.
