RADCLIFFE AC’s Sarah Oxley faced her toughest challenge yet when she ran the Lakeland 50 ultra trail race, finishing in 19hrs 3mins 46secs.

Despite cold and wet conditions when she started mid-morning on Saturday and heavy rain at night she was well within the 24-hour limit for the 50 miles on a course which started at the northern end of Ullswater and finished in Coniston, with more than 10,000ft of climbing and six manned checkpoints on the way.

She said: It was my toughest and most emotional challenge to date but amazing and exhilarating.”

Donna Cartwright was first woman in the Turnslack Fell Race at Calderbrook, Rochdale on Saturday, covering the eight-mile course with 2,000ft of climbing in 1.27.11. She was one of 11 taking on the tough race, part of the Run The Moors Grand Prix.

Radcliffe AC is doing well in the series and runners wanted to keep up the challenge with Neal Emmmerson in 15th overall and first home for Radcliffe in 1.19.21. James Hall was 21st in 1.22.32 and Chris Paxton 34th in 1.24.49.

Ian Warrington ran 1.33.53, Katie Percival 1.35.08, Paul Swyers 1.35.34 and Mauro Rotondi 1.39.43 with Kris Lee close behind in 1.39.47.

Chris Fletcher ran 2.11.05 and Wayne Holden 2.25.00.

There was a lot of splashing through bogs when seven members took on the midweek Lee Mill Fell Race at Bacup.

On the 6.2-mile course, with 1,089ft of climbing, Chris Paxton was first home for the club in 20th place out of 60 runners in 1.05.18.

Donna Cartwright was running well and she was the first vet-40 finisher and second woman in 1.05.59.

Mauro Rotondi (V45) ran 1.09.55, Katie Percival was sixth woman in 1.11.17 and Steve Hamer (V55) ran 1.18.20.

Lisa Carter was the first vet-45 and 10th woman in a time of 1.21.07 and Kate Holden (V40) ran 1.25.19.

Karen Doherty (V40) had a personal best of 27.16 for 5k when she ran the Northern Masters 5,000m Track Championships at East Cheshire Harriers.

Radcliffe’s Jim Rhodes was the third vet-75 in 37.38.

Vince Ashton (V45), was also running in midweek, competing in the tough Millbrook Monster Multi-Terrain 10k at Stalybridge Country Park.

After he clocked 1.06.08 in that event he did a double by running the Lancaster parkrun in 31.04 and the Lancaster 5k race in 25.27.
