HOLLYMOUNT Primary School pupil Emilia Shuttleworth is on a roll after the young cyclist added a prestigious under-10s title to her collection.

The nine-year-old Bolton Hot Wheels member, who was crowned British schools champion in the summer, beat the best young riders in the region to finish top girl in her age group at the Tameside Tuesday Night Track League.

Emilia's dad, Paul Shuttleworth, who is a coach at Bolton Hot Wheels, said: "It was her first time competing in the league so to finish as best girl in her age group was a superb achievement."

The league is run over 20 weeks, starting in April, on a purpose-built 1km closed tarmac circuit in Ashton-under-Lyne.

It and attracts some of the best riders from all over the North West, Yorkshire and Derbyshire, from under-8s up to adults.

Emilia was the best finishing girl in the u10s category in every one of the 16 races she entered.

Paul added: "The races are mixed at Emilia's level, so she was competing alongside boys and a couple of times came second or third overall.

"The boys tend to be a bit quicker so they were almost pulling her along with them and Emilia was keeping up."

Emilia is also a keen cyclocross rider, with the season starting this month.

Paul is a qualified British Cycling coach and ride leader, and works at Bolton Hot Wheels as a volunteer.

He says the club caters for all cycling interests and has urged budding local riders to try it out.

"We are always looking for new members, even if you can't ride a bike or don't have a bike we can help with both. Just visit the Bolton Hot Wheels or British Cycling website for details of our next coaching session."
