DAVE Yates rightly identified the significance of Craig Madden's celebration in this picture, which first featured on the Memory Lane page in the March 30 edition of the Bury Times.

He said: "The photo was taken on May 15, 1982 at the home match against York City.

"Craig Madden has just scored his 35th league goal of the season and knows there's a cheque for £5,000 on its way to him from Pepsi-Cola!"

The soft drinks firm had indeed offered Madden the reward if he hit the 35-goal mark, which remains the club record for goals scored in a season.

The striker's 129 goals in 297 league appearances is also a club record.

Madden spent nine years at Gigg Lane after signing his first professional contract with the club in 1977.

He moved to West Brom in 1986 and after a short spell at the Hawthorns went on to play almost 100 games at Blackpool
