RADCLIFFE AC's Donna Cartwright showed her form again last weekend when she was second woman and first vet-40 in the Windy Hill Fell Race at Littleborough.

Having a great start to the season, she clocked 1hr 20mins 18secs for the nine-mile event with 1,280 feet of climbing on the hills surrounding Hollingworth Lake.

But it was the horrendous conditions on Saturday that were more challenging than the course with runners facing rain, deep mud, wind and lots of icy patches with slippy rocks at Blackstone Edge.

Cartwright was among those who fell, cutting and bruising her legs.

Her fine run put her 51st out of an overall field of 203.

Two other Radcliffe women also took on the tough conditions with Lisa Carter coming home fourth vet-45 in 1:40:12, a personal best time by two minutes, and Kate Holden taking fourth vet-40 in 1:40:41. Together the trio took first place among the women's teams.

It was a weekend of success for the club's women with Jenny Yates taking the prize for first-vet 50 and finishing sixth woman when she clocked 1:43:35 in the Stockport Trail Half Marathon.

In cold conditions, the popular flat off-road race started from Marple along the Middlewood Way footpath and then back along the Macclesfield Canal.

Adding more success, Karen Doherty got herself a medal as second vet-40 when she took part in the Northern Masters AC Cross Country Championships at Ashton-under-Lyne on Sunday.

She took a tumble in mud on a sharp bend but recovered to clock 28:39 on a 5k course.
