TOTTINGTON St John's are inviting all Greater Manchester Cricket League clubs' female players to join their women's team.

The club is the only one in Bury to play in the region's women's league.

The Bury club began a women's team three years ago with players travelling from a wide area to play for them.

They are now hoping to recruit more locally-based players who are currently playing for men's teams in the GMCL and who might be interested in also playing for the Tottington women's team.

They say women can play for them and also for their current club's senior men's team as they are allowed to register for both leagues.

TSJ set up a women's team three years ago to play in the Northern Women's League.

They now play in Division One of the Lancashire Women’s League.

They set up a women's team because, as a small club, they were able to offer their ground for Sunday games.

Their players came from all over the North West and Yorkshire to play in the Northern Women's League, but over the last three years they have introduced cricket to more local players at a coaching club at Tottington High School, supported by the 'I Will If You Will' initiative.

St John's see playing in the Lancashire Women’s League as fitting in with their need to be local and sustain the growth of women’s cricket in Bury.

Several of the club's women also play senior men’s cricket and TSJ are now looking to recruit more women who play for senior men's teams throughout the GMCL.

Any females aged 15 and over who are interested in playing for TSJ in the Lancashire Women’s League can contact Kieran 07525 173154.
