ELPM moved up to eighth in the Greater Manchester Cricket League Division Two A with an impressive 20-run victory at Glossop seconds.

The win, against a side who had won four out of five of their previous league games this season, took Paul Hewart’s Radcliffe side’s record to two wins and four defeats.

ELPM batted the full 50 overs, making 180-9 with opener Gavin Greaves scoring 36 and number five Matty Partington 32.

They then got the home side out for 160 in 42 overs with Matthew Smalley, captain Hewart and Simon Carr all taking three wickets.

Hewart said: “We won the toss and elected to bat on what looked like, and probably will be, the best batting deck we will see all season – white and rock hard.

“Nobody really got in but there were contributions all the way down the order.

“The one real pleasing point was we again batted the overs out and made a respectable 180-9.

“Glossop got off to a reasonable start, putting 35 on for the first wicket.

“All the bowlers bowled well on a batter-friendly track which left very little room for error.

“Regular wickets fell with Smalley finishing on 3-51, me 3-31, Carr 3-24 and Partington 1-20.

“It was a great all-round performance and gives us our second league victory.

“We are having to play proper cricket each week now to even be in the game.

“Attention now turns to Saturday when we entertain Shaw who are currently top of the league so it should be another proper test.”
