A SMALL group of just 11 athletes from Bury AC travelled to Ashton on Sunday to compete in the third Youth Development League Upper fixture of the year and came away with fourth place.

The team amassed a total of 188 points, collectively, giving Bury fourth out of the eight teams in the league and an overall standing of fifth place after the three meetings.

For the under-20s men, Emmanuel Mufakazi took two second places in the A 100m and 200m in 11.5secs and 23.0 respectively.

Kamili Bell won the B 200m in 24.0 and took second in the A 400m with 52.3. Jack Smith won the A 3,000m with a time of 11.41.1.

In the u20s women’s competition, Jenna Allen-Cartwright took second in the A 200m (29.1) and third in the A 400m with 67.6.

For the u17 men, Jacob Stevens took fifth in the A 800m in 2:38.9, while Brandon Quinton and Stefan Kalambouka made it a double victory in the 3,000m, recording 9.48.0 and 10.01.3, respectively.

For the women, Charlotte Larkin took third in the A 100m (14.1) and Heledd Rimmer was third in the A 800m (2.52.3).

Amy Garroch ran well to take third in the 80m hurdles, recording 13.1, while Hattie Vaughan took second in the pole vault with 2.90m.

Charlotte took fifth in the shot (5.80) and Amy third in the discus (16.21), with Heledd recording a respectable throw of 23.75 to take third in the A javelin with Amy’s 16.45 giving her second place in the B event.

Bury had a number of senior members competing in Radcliffe AC’s Joan Rhodes and Eileen Royle memorial 5k trail run.

Ed Hitchin took second place in the M70 age category and daughter Pam was third in the Northern Masters F40 age group.

The day before saw several Bury AC athletes competing at the parkrun event at Heaton Park.

The best club performance came from Josh Birmingham, setting a new personal best for the 5k course of 18.10 and finishing in fifth place.
