BURY played out a creditable 0-0 draw with a strong Liverpool side at Gigg Lane on Saturday.

The Shakers made a strong start, as Virgil Van Dijk had to be alert to clear Callum McFadzean's cross from the left with several white shirts waiting to convert.

The first real chance of the game fell for Liverpool as Joel Matip found Divock Origi, who timed his run superbly but his curled effort was well saved by Joe Murphy.

There was another chance for Matip from a corner, but the Cameroon international was unable to steer his header on target.

Adam Thompson and Eoghan O'Connell then combined to deny Liverpool.

First, Thompson did well to block an attempt on the six-yard line, then it was O'Connell who stepped up to clear a good effort by Sheyi Ojo off the line.

Bury's best chance of the half came in the 37th minute as latest signing Gold Omotayo nearly had the opening goal when he intercepted Alberto Moreno's back-pass, but the striker could not place it around Loris Karius.

Shakers boss Ryan Lowe made just one change at half-time with Stephen Dawson replacing Callum Styles, whole opposite number Jurgen Klopp made 10 changes to his side, with Adam Lallana taking the captain's armband from James Milner.

Liverpool looked destined to find the back of the net on the 50th minute when lovely link-up play between Lallana and Dominic Solanke saw the latter get a shot away, but Ryan Cooney was on the line to prevent the ball going in.

Bury went on the break up the other end and Chris Dagnall looked like he was through on goal but he was well blocked, seeing the ball fall to Cooney who got a shot away only to be denied by the post.

Murphy was soon called back into action to deny Ben Woodburn's right-footed shot towards the top corner.

In the 75th minute, Bury had the ball in the back of the net as new signing Jordan Archer converted Nicky Adams' free kick, but the assistant's flag was up.

The visitors were still in search of a goal as Naby Keita skipped free down the left, but his low cross was diverted wide by Nathaniel Phillips.

Camacho could have won it for Liverpool in the 90th minute when the visitors broke, but he was denied by substitute Mathew Hudson as the friendly ended goalless.

Attendance: 6,852 (5,078 visitors).
