TWO Bury AC members were picked by the Greater Manchester selectors to represent the county in the prestigious English Schools Track and Field Championships held last weekend in Birmingham.

Hattie Vaughan, competing in the intermediate girls' pole vault competition, was disappointed she was not able to produce her usual three-metre plus performance.

Hattie’s best vault of 2.90m secured her 11th place.

Multi-eventer Daisy Worthington represented the county in the intermediate girls' long jump and given her season has been plagued with a knee injury, she should be proud to have been selected.

Her best jump of 4.78m was some way off her best and put her in 21st place.

Fortune smiled on former Bury AC member Jerel Livingston, who was competing in the junior boys' long jump.

Jerel produced a massive new personal-best jump of 6.78m to win the competition, setting a new championship best performance in the process.

While Jerel now competes for Trafford AC, his Bury AC teammates are immensely pleased for him.

The youngster currently ranks second in the UK in his age group for the event.

A small squad of Bury athletes travelled to Wrexham on Sunday to compete in the third of the four Cheshire Track and League fixtures.

Elsewhere, Byron Edwards took second place in the Worsley Woods parkrun (18mins 7secs) and Stefan Kalambouka finished 11th in the Stretford parkrun (17:39).

In the Ironman UK championships staged in Bolton, Nigel Brady put in a brave performance in the hot weather conditions to complete the course in 13:47:01 in an enormous field of more than 2,000 competitors.

This Saturday will see Bury’s under-15s and u13s compete in the final Youth Development League Lower fixture of the season at Wigan’s Robin Park stadium.
