BURY completed an encouraging week of pre-season outings with a 1-0 win at Chester FC on Saturday.

After drawing at home to Liverpool and Everton in the previous seven days, the Shakers won with a 48th-minute goal from Gold Omotayo.

Ryan Lowe's men impressed in both the performances against strong teams put out by the Merseyside giants, which somewhat made up for heavy defeats in their opening two summer friendlies at Scottish giants Rangers and at home to Premier League Huddersfield when they conceded a combined 10 goals with none scored.

Swiss striker Omotayo, one of a number of half-time substitutes, set Bury on their way to their first win of pre-season against the non-leaguers when he converted a cross from the right by Ryan Cooney from close range.

The Shakers had other chances to go ahead before and after the decisive goal, with Chris Dagnall just failing to connect sufficiently with another Cooney cross on 14 minutes, Will Aimson bouncing the ball off the top of the crossbar two minutes later, Jordan Archer having an effort cleared off the line, Dagnall hitting the post after sprinting clear and taking the ball wide of goalkeeper Grant Shenton, Neil Danns bringing a fine save out of the keeper with a long-range effort and Saul Shotton needing to be more clinical with time to strike a shot from close range.
