I'll do Bury job for free - Landi

ROBERTO Landi - a former coach of the US and Qatar national team - is so keen to break into the English management game he has offered to take charge of League Two Bury for free until the end of the season.

The 51-year-old Italian, who speaks seven languages, has offered his services after being frustrated in his attempts to get a job in the Football League.

Landi was mentioned as a candidate for the recent manager's job at League One Port Vale, and his agent Bryan Yeubrey claims he made an advanced shortlist for the job at Premiership Fulham.

The Shakers are searching for a new boss following the sacking of Chris Casper 12 days ago and have compiled a shortlist of names to be interviewed this week. And Landi is hoping to make a late bid for the post.

"Roberto is incredibly experienced. He is so sure of his ability that he would work for no salary if he fails to improve Bury's league position," said his English-based agent Yeubrey. "He speaks good English and has an excellent knowledge of our game.

"He is very mindful of the finances involved at this level and would first be looking to bring out the full ability of Bury's existing players. After that, he has excellent contacts in Europe and would be able to bring in players for free or on loan to help solve any problems."

Though his chances appear slim, Landi's impressive CV does list club roles in Serie A, with Messina, and the Romanian Premier League, with Dinamo Bucharest, where he took the club on a 17-game club-record winning streak.

He will face opposition from Chris Brass, the caretaker boss who leads the Shakers into their FA Cup fourth round game at Southampton this afternoon, while Steve McMahon and Alan Knill have been strongly tipped. Former Bolton assistant Neil McDonald and Ronnie Jepson also in the frame.
