COUNCIL workers have walked out this morning on strike against unfair pay.

Bin men, library staff and teaching assistants are among those expected to join the two-day protest.

The public sector union Unison has organised the industrial action over a 2.45 per cent pay increase offered to its members by the Government.

It says that with the increase in food and fuel prices they say its members are effectively being paid less this year due to the rise in inflation.

So far picket lines have been set up outside Bury Town Hall and other local authority buildings in the town.
