BURY Clarion’s outstanding twins Simon and Adam Yates have been making their presence know at the Closed Circuit Track Criterium Series again over the last two weeks.

Last Thursday’s race saw Simon take second place, and Adam come home eighth, in a showery Preston town centre.

The 15-year-old duo were back in action two days later at the National Junior Championship, with Simon again finishing an impressive second, and Adam slipping two places to 10th.

At the previous week’s activities, they battled against senior third and fourth category riders in the Rochdale Town Centre Grand Prix, where youth gave experience a run for its money.

Adam stormed home in second place, while Simon was fourth.

The Olympic 2012 hopefuls were also in Preston in the same week, and the day belonged to Adam.

In an impressive tactical move, he broke away from the chasing pack with six senior riders to cross the line first. Simon finished in the group.

Rik Warrington, meanwhile, posted his fastest time since his comeback on the TT circuit last Saturday. He battled a windy, wet Preston CC 10-mile TT at Garstang, to come home in an impressive 22 minutes and 21 seconds.

The previous Sunday he smashed the hour in the wind and rain when he competed in North Shropshire Wheelers 25-mile TT. The open event saw him finish sixth in 59.10.

Warrington was one of 120 male competitors in the Central Ladies Open 25-mile TT, Derbyshire, where he finished in 56.07 – 2.09 outside the National Clarion Veterans record.

Martin Lee rode Rhyll CC’s 25-mile TT, Abergele. His time of one hour and six minutes qualified him for a prize of £15 for the most improved rider over the past three seasons. Southport CC’s weekly drop in 10-mile TT is regularly used by Clarion members as a training run and, despite the soggy summer, Andy Horner and Nick Hall still managed respectable times on the Tarleton course.

Horner shot to the finish in 24.20, with Hall only 32 seconds behind his club-mate in 24.52.

The following week Horner rode the course solo and improved on his previous week’s time by just over 30 seconds to race home in 23.44.BURY Clarion’s outstanding twins Simon and Adam Yates have been making their presence know at the Closed Circuit Track Criterium Series again over the last two weeks.
